Prescription Drugs Now the Leading Cause of Overdosing
Previously, up until the mid 1990’s, most overdoses were caused by illegal substances such as heroin and crack cocaine. The huge upswing in prescriptions, and the lack of knowledge about the abuse of prescription medications, has created a dangerous cycle of abuse and addiction. “The biggest and fastest-growing part of America’s drug problem is prescription drug abuse,” said a former White House drug czar and former director of NIDA.
