Long-term Suboxone Use is Not Detox

Suboxone Detox is an opiate dependency treatment program designed to prevent the pain of opiate withdrawal and simultaneously minimize the risk of overdose.

There are two different Suboxone treatment models that were implemented, both DEA authorized for physicians to use to treat opiate addiction. The two models are:

Long-term use of Suboxone is not an opiate detoxification program. In fact, Buprenorphine HCl, which is Suboxone’s largest active ingredient is itself an opiate. Therefore long-term use of Suboxone is actually an opiate substitution program.

Short-term Suboxone treatment is otherwise known as Suboxone Detoxification and  is an actual detox program that helps opiate addicts overcome dependency on heroin, prescription medications, painkillers and other opiate-based narcotics..

When meeting with a DEA approved physician for the first time, it is very important that you express your goals and desires clearly and concisely. If needed, write them down before your Doctors appointment. And if the gradual removal of all drugs from your system is what you want, do not allow yourself to be talked out of it.

The same holds true with maintenance. If maintenance is what makes you feel most comfortable right now, then by all means do it.

Whichever road you choose is a huge improvement from using and abusing opiates, heroin and narcotics. And both roads lead to a chance at a drug-free, productive and healthy lifestyle.

Suboxone Detox or Suboxone Maintenance? There are no wrong answers…

Suboxone Maintenance Long-term Outcomes Released

Conclusions of the study: Suboxone (buprenorphine) is a viable treatment option and when coupled with an abstinence oriented addiction counseling program. Suboxone is effective in promoting abstinence, self-help group attendance, occupational stability, and improved psychosocial outcomes in patient populations over an 18–42-month period. Anna Nicole-Smith died over 2 years ago

Anna Nicole-Smith died over 2 years ago.

Actually 2-1/2 years ago. The coroner found enough benzodiazepines in her blood for a small army- but no antidepressants. But according to almost everyone, she had fallen into a deep depression after her son died in the same room where she had given birth to her daughter a few hours earlier.

Anna Nicole Smith was only 39-years-old. Her cause of death was listed as “combined drug intoxication.” Basically, she overdosed. But ask the prosecutor and Smith did not overdose. Her doctors overdosed her. And now, two of them are looking at prison.

If that is what it is going to take to teach doctors a lesson about prescribing drugs to dual diagnosed drug addicts and alcoholics, well, so be it. There is a little girl out there who will never know her mother.

Generic Suboxone / Subutex Approved

Roxane Laboratories, Inc. announces the launch of Buprenorphine 1/2 HCl sublingual tablets.

Buprenorphine Generic Suboxone / Subutex Approved

Roxane Laboratories, Inc. announced today the approval of its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for Buprenorphine HCl Sublingual Tablets, 2mg and 8mg by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The product is available in bottles of 30 for immediate shipment to wholesalers and pharmacies nationwide. Roxane Laboratories’ Buprenorphine HCl Sublingual Tablets are AB rated to SUBUTEX® (buprenorphine HCl) tablets.

The main ingredient in Suboxone and Subutex, Buprenorphine allows for a comfortable, pain-free detox from heroin, vicodin, morphine and other strong prescription medications. In the past, withdrawal and detox from opiates would require admission to a hospital or detox/psych-ward. Today, detox from these same very strong drugs can be accomplished successfully on an outpatient basis, or a combination of inpatient and outpatient detox.

Soccer moms to college students need not fear being away from family or from classes fro an extended period; previously this was a major obstacle to both detox and treatment. For the factory worker who was injured falling off scaffolding and who became dependent on his pain pills, finally- a means to an end.

Despite reservations based on stereotype, he can begin the detox process from his own doctors office. A trip downtown to a skid-row motel will not be necessary…
